What's on the Porch? | Wednesday (6.25.2025)
It’s that time again—What’s on the Porch? Wednesday—basically my favorite excuse to chat about whatever’s piling up on the porch these days. Books, drinks, travels, scribbled notes in the margins, or just little things I’m loving right now.
You don’t have to be on a porch to join in (but if you are, bonus points). Just bring your current read, whatever’s in your mug, and anything you’ve been thinking about lately.

No endorsements here - these are all just some small things I'm really loving at the moment! To eat, drink, read, journal with, and explore.
While we were in Colorado for our elopement trip (sigh... so dreamy), Shane snagged a bag of fresh cherries at a farmer's market in Montrose. I'll be honest - I'm terrible at pie-making but I love a good cobbler. Scoured Google and found my new favorite cherry cobbler recipe—easy-peasy, with a sugar cookie-style drop crust that feels like cheating but in the best way. I’m definitely making this again before berry season is over. Here's the link to check it out!
In a similar vein, before we left to head west, I found a new favorite: Dickies socks off Amazon. Is it weird to talk about socks in a bookish space? Maybe but I’m a fan of the practical joys in life, and these pass the test. They were comfy and kept my feet dry when we were out and about.
Speaking of being in the mountains: Ozark Mountain Coffee Company’s “Amaretto” ground coffee. Holy. Freakin'. YUM, you guys! Bonus points because it’s Missouri-crafted. The smell alone makes my whole kitchen feel like a better place to be and I swoon over anything amaretto flavored. I snagged this at Dogwood Vintiques in Jefferson City, on a girls' day, for $9.99 and it was worth all those pennies.
On a bookish note, I finished up listening to God of the Woods by Liz Moore (I'll probably blog a review on that later this week) and moved on to When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker on audiobook. I’m still early in, but I’m intrigued. Anyone else read this one yet?
Favorite location of the week → Sugar Britches Bakery in Jefferson City. It’s local, it's delicious, and it’s everything I want in a summer mid-morning or afternoon stop. They recently expanded their space and it is SO charming, y'all: used books on the shelves and the smell of coffee drifting across the space and dark walls that make you want to nest on in for a writing session.
And because teacher life is creeping in: Five Star Advance Wirebound Notebook (5 Subject) made honorable mention this week. I'll be using this as a custom lesson planning book this year. Clean, organized, and I like that there’s a whole app for it now. Fancy.

Let's see...
ReplyDeleteMy Papermate Flair pens/markers from Sam's Club. I love using them on handmade cards.
You'll like this too--personality books/quizzes. I'm trying to get to know myself better (and others) and am on a mission with a friend to read specific personality books together and discuss.
Sending the kids to Grandma's. We sent the boys off to the Lake with Cliff's mom this weekend and just having time to read and catch up on your blog has been a joy in itself! Did I also wake up refreshed at 6am, start my morning slow with coffee on the front porch after an overnight rain, and knock three things off my to-do list before 9am? YES!
